Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur: Our Family’s Big Bali Hotel Adventure!

Planning a family trip to Bali and wondering about the Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur? After an amazing 18-night, 19-day Bali family adventure, we spent a couple of nights here, and boy, do we have stories to share! Coming from 9 super fun days on Gili Trawangan, we were ready for a bit of comfort. For many, this might be a well-known “good value” spot in Sanur. But for our family, who usually goes camping in New Zealand, this felt like the fanciest, most luxurious place we stayed at during our whole Bali trip! Let’s dive into whether the Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur could be your family’s next favorite Bali stay.

How Much Did Our “Fancy” Stay Cost?

We booked our rooms at the Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur through Agoda. We booked two double/twin rooms for 2 nights, and breakfast was included. The total cost was IDR 3,284,932. That’s around $210 US dollars.
Lots of Korean travelers say this is a ‘great value Sanur hotel.’ And for us, after lots of camping in New Zealand, this was easily the poshest hotel of our Bali holiday. It felt like a real treat! It’s interesting how “value” can mean different things. For some, it’s the lowest price, but for families on a big trip, “value” often includes things like a good breakfast to start the day and fun things for kids to do, which the Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur definitely offered.

First Look and Where It’s At: Big Hotel, A Little Out of the Way

When we first got to the Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur from Gili, we were really impressed! The hotel looked huge, and its entrance on the main road was super clean and grand. Checking in was nice too – they gave us a yummy lime welcome drink. It was so refreshing and helped us forget how tired we were from traveling. This kind of welcome makes a big difference, especially when you’re traveling with kids.

But, let’s talk about where it is. The Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur is a little bit away from the main busy part of Sanur.

  • To walk to Sanur Beach, it takes about 10 minutes.
  • If you want to go to the main shopping street, Jalan Danau Tamblingan (where you’ll find ICON Bali, a cool new mall), it’s about a 24-minute walk.

A quick tip: traffic in Bali can be slow, so even if you call a taxi or a ride-hailing car (like Gojek or Grab), it might take a while for it to arrive. The good news is the Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur has a free shuttle bus. It can take you to some supermarkets and other important spots nearby, which is really helpful! We used it a couple of times and it saved us some walking in the Bali heat.

Our Rooms at Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur: Good, Not-So-Good, and a Sweet Treat!

We asked for connecting rooms, which is super handy for families. They gave us rooms at the very end of the hallway on the 3rd floor. And guess what? We got a wonderful surprise! I had told them it was our 10th wedding anniversary trip, and the Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur gave us a free cake! That was such a kind and thoughtful thing to do. Little touches like this make a stay memorable.

The main downside of our room location was the walk from the hotel lobby. It felt like a really long way, especially when the kids were tired or we were carrying our beach stuff.
The rooms themselves, and the bathrooms, were a bit small. They weren’t tiny, but if you like a lot of space, you might find them snug. The hotel has been around for a while, so the style was a bit older, but everything was kept very clean and looked after.
We saw that the showerhead could probably be changed for a newer one, and the hotel staff said they could do it if we wanted. But we were okay with it and just used it as it was. We didn’t check the water quality or anything like that. For a family, having clean, functional rooms is key, and the Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur delivered on that, even if they were a bit dated.

Breakfast Buffets and Awesome Hotel Fun!

This was a big deal for us: the Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur was the only place on our whole 18-night Bali trip that had a breakfast buffet! Since we usually stay at campsites or in simple cabins in New Zealand, having a big buffet with lots of choices was a new and super exciting experience for our family. There were eggs, pastries, fruit, local Indonesian dishes – so much to choose from! Starting the day with a full belly and no cooking or cleaning up? Yes, please!

One small thing to know: if you want to order food delivery (like from GoJek or GrabFood), they can only bring it to the main security gate at the hotel entrance. Because our room was quite far from the gate, it was a bit of a hassle if we wanted to get takeout and eat in our room.

But the swimming pool? Oh, it was fantastic! It was a really long pool, so there was plenty of space to swim, and it was very clean and well-kept. One end of the pool had shallow water with sunbeds in it. This was perfect for just relaxing in the water and keeping an eye on the kids. Plus, they had a net for water volleyball or badminton and even a mini basketball hoop! Our kids absolutely loved this and spent hours playing in the pool. A great pool can make or break a family holiday, and the pool at Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur was a definite win.

  • Did you know? Bali welcomed over 5.2 million international tourists in 2023 alone, with many families choosing Sanur for its calmer waters! (Source: Indonesia’s Official Tourism Website often shares such data). This shows just how popular Bali is for family getaways.

Who Else Was Staying There? A Grown-Up Vibe

Most of the other guests we saw at the Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur seemed to be older people, mostly from Western countries. We didn’t see many other families with young kids, especially when we were at the pool during the day.
This actually worked out pretty well for us! Because there weren’t lots of other kids around, our children could splash and play in the pool as much as they wanted. We didn’t have to worry too much about them being too noisy or bothering other families. It gave them a sense of freedom.

While the Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur offered a great experience, if you’re looking for something perhaps a bit more central in Sanur and with a different vibe, you might want to check out other options. For instance, we also stayed at Nyaman Guest House in Sanur, which was a totally different but also enjoyable experience. The Herinian Family Verdict on Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur:

So, what did we think overall about our stay at the Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur? Here’s our list of good points and not-so-good points.

What We Really Liked (Pros):

  • Big, open spaces around the hotel that were very neat and tidy.
  • The swimming pool was amazing! Seriously, the facilities were top-notch and the kids (and us!) loved it. This is a huge plus for any family considering the Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur.
  • The breakfast buffet was so good. Lots of choices and a great way to start the day.
  • The staff were generally very friendly and helpful whenever we needed anything. From check-in to the restaurant, everyone was welcoming.

What Could Be Better (Cons):

  • It’s a bit far from the main Sanur area (the beach and Jalan Danau Tamblingan). You’ll need to walk or use the shuttle.
  • The hotel is quite big, so getting from the lobby to some rooms can be a long walk.
  • The rooms felt a bit small, especially the bathrooms. Fine for a short stay, but maybe a bit cramped for longer.

Final Thoughts: Would We Go Back to Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur?

If we visit Sanur again, we would probably look for a hotel or guesthouse closer to Jalan Danau Tamblingan. We like being able to walk to lots of shops, cafes, and right onto the beach.

  • Stat Attack! A recent travel survey showed that for over 60% of families, easy access to amenities and attractions is a top priority when choosing hotel locations.

But, the Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur is still a really good choice for certain types of travelers:

We’d Recommend Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur To:

  • Families who think a great swimming pool is super important. If your kids love to swim, they will be very happy here.
  • Travelers who like having a big breakfast buffet included in their hotel stay. It saves time and money!
  • People who prefer a quieter place to stay, away from the main noise and crowds of central Sanur. If you don’t mind a short walk or using a shuttle, the peacefulness here is a plus.

For our family, our stay at the Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur was a comfy, enjoyable, and yes, a little bit “fancy” (for us!) part of our big Bali adventure! It provided a different pace and style compared to our other accommodations, and the kids still talk about that pool!
